About Me
Hi there, my name is Louis West, I am a 18 year old photographer from West Devon in the UK, I hope you like my work! I am currently studying photography at Arts University Plymouth (Pre Degree), with plans to go further on into photography in the future.
I started doing photography a few years back (around 2020) on my phone, and it's developed from a small hobby to a geniune passion of mine, especially since I got my first DSLR in 2022, which let me get a real understanding of photography, and gave me so many more options in what I could capture, and how well I could capture it. I feel I have improved so much from my first photos to my current photos, and am excited to see how much better I can be in the future.

Equipment
Currently in Use:
The Canon EOS R5
My camera, it's amazing, 45MP, compact, well built and comfortable too. It has amazing subject tracking for wildlife, great resolution, colours and features for lanscapes, all in a small and durable body, as of right now, I couldn't really ask for more!
The Canon EF 24-70 f/2.8L II USM
My main wide angle lens. It's an incredibly versatile and sharp lens, whilst it's no RF 24-70mm, it certainly is a good lens, it does pretty much everything as I like it, and it works really well on my R5. 24 is a great wide focal length, pretty much perfect for most types of landscape photography, and 70mm at f/2.8 is a super useful combination. There isn't much this lens can't do from my experience.
The Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM (Contemporary) for Canon (EF)
My main wildlife lens, had it for approaching a year and it has been great so far, and putting it on a mirrorless has really given it a new lease of life, it's lightweight, and, whilst it has a few autofocus inconsitencies, it's nothing that some settings can't mainly fix.
The Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM
'The Nifty Fifty' - love the focal length, love the sharpness, love the price, not the greatest fan of the focus system though, it's slow, and worryingly noisy - still, for the price I can't complain much.
The Sirui AM-284 and KH-20 Ball Head
A tripod. A good one though, it's lightweight, robust, and can carry a lot of weight, it's the ideal tripod for my use case, can carry heavy equipment and gimbals, whilst also being lightweight, and not huge, really well built too.
The Google Pixel 7a
My phone. Gets me where I want to go, lets me talk to the people I need to talk to, pretty good deal too all things considered. Surprisingly good camera too, wasn't expecting to use it much but for scouting or going out in very bad conditions, it does the job very well.
Apple MacBook Pro - M2 Pro (2023)
My laptop. Lightweight, well built, and quick and powerful for editing, with a great display too, even has good battery life and says nice and cool even whilst doing pretty intensive tasks, no complaints from me.
Vanguard VEO Select 48BF
My backpack, fits everything I need, comfortable, well built, couldn't ask for more really.
